3.2.2 Defining exceptions for the Windows firewall
To exchange data in a Client/Server installation environment firewall
exceptions must be defined. The description below is specific to Windows XP.
Please refer to the relevant user manual if you use firewalls provided by other
security tools.
Follow these steps to define exemptions:
1 Select "[start] > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Windows
Firewall" to open the dialogue box of the same name.
The Windows Firewall dialogue box will open.
2 On the "General" tab check that
– "On (recommended)" is selected and
– the "Don’t allow exceptions" check box is not selected.
Only if this check box is not selected can you define an exception for the
dongle.
3 Switch to the "Exceptions" tab and click on [Add Program...].
The "Add a Program" dialogue box will open.
4 Click on [Browse...].
The Browse dialogue box will open.
5 Select the file for which you want to define an exception, e.g. "sqlbrowser.exe"
located in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared".
